Who is Riley Pool?

The “Who is” post series already featured some very interesting people such as Michael Dunlop and Andrew Wee.

In today’s post I’d like to introduce you to a smaller blogger which doesn’t post as often as some others but I found some pretty interesting information in several of his posts and he is showing some real motivation to reach online success by making huge sacrifices, so I thought he deserved to be featured in the “Who is” series. Here comes Riley Pool.

Riley Pool’s Background

Riley Pool is a 27 years old’s affiliate born and raised in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Riley earned a Bachelors Degree in Finance from Northeastern State University and is on his way to get a Master in Finance and Accounting. (I’m so used to reading stories about school-drops making it online that I almost found it odd that Riley has such diplomas).

Riley Pool’s Discovery Of The Industry

Riley discovered the wonderful world of Internet marketing in November 2006 through one of his friends. He started making money online by using blackhat methods until January 2007 (At least one person who publicly admit it!).

In November 2007, being job-less, he decided to try to go legit and increase his online revenue through whitehat methods. Since he didn’t have money to invest into his online business, his efforts lasted only until January 2008 and he failed.

Riley had no cash to go the PPC route so he focused on SEO but the repetitive tasks it involves and the long time it takes to get a ROI discouraged him.

From this point, Riley found an offline job doing title work on foreclosed homes all across the United States until the end of his studies.

In December 2008, he decided it was time to give it another shot. The big difference for this second try was that he had saved money from his offline job, so he had cash to invest online.

He was soon to find a profitable PPC campaign and from this time he never stopped making money online.

Riley Pool Taking a Leap Of Faith

After working for 12 months at his offline job, Riley was promoted to Title Team Leader at Fidelity Residential Solutions. The problem he was facing was time management. He was working a good 40 hours at his day job and working another 40 hours per week to develop hsi online business.

Working so much started affecting his productivity since he was getting exhausted and never enjoying the results of his hard work. Moreover, his morale was pretty low because there were some layoffs at his dayjob.

Riley eventually discovered that there were going to have more layoffs and he decided to take a leap of faith and volunteered for them. It was time for him to try to become a full-time affiliate.

Riley Pool’s Company: Riis Media

An important step in making his business legit has been founding his Online Marketing Company: Riis Media, on September 28, 2009.

Riley Pool: Full Time Affiliate

Riley officially became a full-time affiliate on June 23rd, 2010 (almost exactly 1 year ago).

He honestly admits that his biggest difficulty as an affiliate is time management and scheduling since he knows everything he has to do today could be done at any time, but he is working on improving this side of his business.

What I particularly appreciate about Riley is the honesty with which he is writing on his blog, RileyPool.com. Here is a short excerpt taken from one of his pages:

I do not proclaim to be a good writer because frankly, I don’t like writing. The only reason I’m blogging is because I’m interested in building some equity behind my name and want to become a recognizable and credible source in the online marketing industry.

Hey Steven – I am digging your work! You are a very talented artist! What will it take to get you to set me up with one of these fine pieces of art?

    1. Hi Steve,

Indeed my artist is very talented and he truly appreciates all the positive comments about his work :) (I do not draw them myself)

Your best shot to get your own caricature is probably to enter my little contest. It’s as easy as 1, 2, 3. All there is to do is write a short review of dukeo and you could win your caricature (more details in the link).
