Successful Friends: Here Is Why You Need Some
Have you ever noticed that successful people are always hanging out with other successful people? Do you think that’s just something random? That couldn’t be more false. People who you are associating with will always have some common points with you. For example, if you are a heavy drinker, there are good chances that most of your friends are heavy drinkers too.
Now, let me take this one step further: one of the biggest thing that is preventing you from reaching success is your current group of friends. How often did your friends think that making money online was not a serious thing? How often did they tell you that you are wasting your time and you’d be better going out and enjoying some drinks with them.
I think for most people this is unconscious, but there are also some who are doing this willingly, just to prevent you from fulfilling your crazy dreams. A few months ago, I was chatting with a friend of mine about the fact that I wanted to move overseas, he told me that maybe this was not such a good idea but something in his reaction was bugging me so I pushed him a little to see what he was truly thinking about my idea. I was quite shocked when he openly admitted that he was extremely jealous and he simply didn’t want me to go there for his own selfish reasons. I mean, this guy was supposed to be one of my two best friends and he was admitting that he didn’t want me to go after my dreams because he was jealous!
The older you get, the more you realize that your so-called friends do not want you to succeed. There is some kind of social inertia, and it takes a lot of efforts and sacrifices to get free of it.
One of the biggest sacrifices is probably to admit that your long-time friends do not want you to succeed and you will need to see them less or even drop them. You will need to find new like-minded friends. Either people who are on their way to success or people who are already successful.
This is probably one of the main reasons to attend to live events such as Affiliate Summit, and also local meetups (check Meetup.com): to make friend with other successful people.
A big part of who you are both in your personal life and professional life is determined by the people you are hanging out with. The journey to success is rarely a lonely experience, it is much more of a team effort.
If you are aspiring to more than what your old-time friends want to achieve, you will have no choice but to let them go to find others at your level or above.
