Monthly Traffic Report – April 2012

Dukeo being a live case study, it’s important to keep track of traffic stats to follow the growth of this blog. I share the REAL stats of this website copied directly from Google Analytics.

Use these traffic reports to keep an idea of the kind of traffic you can generate over time when starting a blog from scratch, without leveraging any other web property.

Unique Visitors and Pageviews

Let’s start with some general data about this month traffic: unique visitors and pageviews. These two indicators are the most commonly used in web statistics. Every webmaster know how many unique visitors he is receiving monthly as well as the number of page impressions. Here is Dukeo’s data for this month:

Unique Visitors and Pageviews

As you can see, the number of unique visitors for April 2012 decreased compared to previous month. From what I understand, this is mostly due to the decrease of traffic coming from StumbleUpon (more on that later). However, the general quality of visitors have increased and they have visited more pages on Dukeo than ever before!

Traffic Sources

Here is a general overview of the sources where dukeo’s traffic has been coming from during the past month.

Traffic Sources

The share of traffic coming from search engines grew by over 10%. This is the kind of news that I don’t really like… It means that I’m relying more and more on a single traffic source and I should definitely work on increasing my referred traffic.

The traffic coming from StumbleUpon completely disappeared this month. Affbuzz traffic has been picking up and increased decently during the past month.

Hi Steve, thanks for sharing your traffic stats. It is very interesting that your overall Google traffic increased. Can I ask what happened with Stumbleupon? or do you know?

    Thanks in advance.

What happened is that last month a couple of my articles went viral on StumbleUpon, but it didn’t happen again this month.

ok, cool that makes sense. I think it is interesting to try and figure out what ‘kind’ of content can go viral. Maybe you can take what you learned and create more content that will also go viral?

        Thanks for the reply

The articles that went viral were extremely long posts that were covering beginners problems in a lot of details. As much as I like writing for this blog, I prefer splitting my big articles into several smaller keyword targeted ones.

Thanks for sharing this Ste :) I haven’t used AffBuzz before. Is this a site for you to submit your blog post? It seems like a news aggregator.

    Cheers,
    Ming

You can suggest your site, but you can’t submit individual stories there.

It is so impressing to see that greater percentage of the traffic came from Google. This tells something – your SEO is doing so good. I also wan’t to point out that just like @Ming above, I haven’t known Affbuzz until I keenly read through this article. Am going through the article and others related post to see what I can learn from this and other traffic reports that you have shared. Thanks.
