How to Find the Best Blogs to Guest Post On

Guest posting is one of the most popular ways to grow your traffic. It’s totally free, requiring only time and effort, and when done well, the return on investment can be quite high. However, part of the guest posting equation involves finding great blogs to guest post on – blogs where you’ll actually get visitors from your guest post, and visitors who are interested in what you have to say, at that. Finding these blogs can be an intimidating process for a beginner, but there’s a few surefire tips that can help you on your way.

guest blogging

First off, you want to look for blogs with overlapping, but not 100% similar content. If your blog sounds like exactly the same sort of thing as the blog you guest post on, readers have no reason to visit – they’re already reading that blog, why would they need to read yours, as well? Readers only have a limited amount of time in their day, and chances are, they won’t waste it reading a blog that covers exactly the same content as one they’re already reading.

This is easier than it sounds, though. You can look for blogs that cover a lot of different facets of one topic – like, for example, ProBlogger – and do a very in-depth post about something that’s covered in the blog. Following the example of ProBlogger, you could do an in-depth post about how you can use email marketing to drive readers to specific blog posts. Readers who are interested in the subject will click over, and there will probably be a decent amount of them.

Another example would be a blogger who writes about writing and how to improve it, guest posting on a blog about marketing with tips on improving sales pages and headlines.

The best way to get a head start on this is to just list any blogging topic or niche that could be related to your niche, or has overlapping content. These are the kinds of blogs you’ll want to look for.

Now you know what to look for – but where will you find it?

The two main tools in your arsenal here are:

Searching on Twitter. Simply search for blog posts related to your niche – examples would be “blog (your niche)” or “post (your niche)”. You might even search for “guest post (your niche)”, because then you can find blogs looking for guest posters. Since you’re mainly looking for blogs with overlapping content that aren’t exactly the same, you’ll want to come up with examples of similar topics or topics that have overlap, and search for them as well.

Look on AllTop or on blog directories. AllTop is a good place to start, but it shouldn’t be the only place you look. At AllTop, you can sort by topic or by most popular, and look at blogs that way. Other great options include looking at the Technorati blog directory, or at BlogCatalog.

Using these tips, you’ll be able to come up with a long list of blogs to guest post for, that you can practically guarantee you’ll get a good return on investment from. The next step is to start writing your guest posts, and of course – make sure they’re great. Good luck!

  1. Nice post!Guest blogging is definitely one tool people can use to promote their own site.

  2. I’ve really enjoyed using twitter search for finding people that are talking about it. It’s hard for niche areas…I’ve come up dry on many searches about niche markets.
