When you first develop a blog you want to acquire the traffic to make it popular. However, there is more to this than simply those who visit your site. If they are visiting and leaving within minutes then you will never see the success you want. Your goal is to get them to stay, subscribe to the blog, opt-in to the email list and potentially bring you an income. The only way this is going to happen is if those readers view your blog as informative and you as an authority on the topic. Otherwise they will simply look for their information elsewhere. So how do you become an authority? The simple answer is through your content.
You absolutely have to write about what you know. If you venture into other territories it will be quite obvious that you do not understand what you talk about. That does not mean you cannot write about them. It simply means you will not be viewed as an authority on the subject. If you want to be viewed as an expert then make sure that you are. Pick a niche that you understand and are able to talk about fluently. This will guarantee that you come across as being the expert you are trying to be.
It is also important that you create original content. Your readers do not want to see the same thing they can find on other favorite blogs. You need to stand out. This means you cannot take someone else’s topic and simply rewrite it for your own purposes. You need to create original posts that give new information. The tone you write in and the details you share should be completely your own. If not, you will see fewer people subscribe or even stick around to read any further.
Focus your energy on sharing the knowledge that you have. Do it in a way that it provides information and solutions to those that are reading. You do not want to simply be another blog that fails within the first try. Everyone has something that they know and understand. Your goal is to make yours interesting enough that people actually want to continue reading. If you have one informative and interesting post among many that are not, you will lose those visitors as quickly as they came. Set out to write high quality and well thought out posts each and every time. Do so with consistency and a schedule and you will find much more success.
Becoming an authority is more than simply deciding you are. You need others to view you the same way. Fortunately you have the ability to prove this through the content you create. That alone can be what sets your blog apart from the competition and makes people take notice. As more and more people begin sticking around your blog it will eventually begin to see success. It all starts with you, what you know and what you choose to write.
