Get Rich Blogging: Fact or Fiction?

Steven 4 responses Blogging

Can you get rich blogging? Sure. I was raised to believe you can do anything you set your mind to. Can you get rich over night? Nope. Can you do it with one puny little blog about How To Raise Prize-Winning Pumpkins? Probably not. Let’s take a look at some of the things you’ve heard about blogging and separate the fact from the fiction.

Anybody can do it: Fact

Yes, anybody can do it, but you have to want to do it and there’s usually a difference. If you’ve never blogged before then it’s pretty silly to assume you can set up a blog and start making money.

If you’ve never been involved in marketing before then it’s also pretty silly to assume you can just pick a product and start selling it.

There’s a lot to learn but if you’re motivated and patient you’ll learn it and you’ll be one of those rich bloggers you’ve been hearing about.

Blogging is easy money: Fiction

Yes, the actual act of blogging, sitting down to write a blog post, is easy. But if that’s all there was too it then everybody would be getting rich blogging, right? There’s so much more involved it’s impossible to cover it in just one post, and a lot of it is boring grunt work, just like your JOB.

However, it’s the most rewarding career you can imagine. You set your schedule, you make the rules, you work when you want and where you want and you can take you business any direction you choose. And when it’s all said and done, you own your own business. What could be better than that?

You can make lots of money: Fact

Yes, you can makes lots of money blogging and there really are bloggers out there making six- and seven-figure incomes. Lots of bloggers, too, so don’t think it’s just a fluke. However, most will tell you that it took years of intense effort to reach that income level, just like it would with any type of business you start and own yourself.

You can make lots of money fast: Fiction

There are bloggers out there who somehow managed to make a lot of money fast, as soon as they set up their blog. However, “a lot of money” and “fast” are relative terms.

To me, a thousand bucks is a lot of money and if I made it in one weekend I’d be tickled to death. But a thousand bucks only goes so far. To build a long-term, predictable, and sustainable blogging business you need lots of traffic and that takes time.

All It Takes Is One Great Blog: Fiction

I don’t know a single successful blogger who only has one blog. They may have one very successful blog where they make the bulk of their money, but eventually everyone diversifies into unrelated niches or other online businesses. You have to these days.

Trends come and go, products become obsolete, new competitors enter the market, technology advances and time marches on. You really can’t afford to put all of your eggs in one basket these days and it only makes sense to broaden your base and look toward the future.

When you're learning how to blog for money, you need to understand that the very first step is to create a website. Thank you for your candor….
Also one does not need to spend a fortune on Books and Webinars to acquire the skills.
There is so much FREE, valid, information available on the guidelines.
One needs the Desire and the Discipline to Invest Time and Energy.
Helps to get involved in a Master Mind group.

    1. Let’s be clear, there is a lot of value in free information, but there is a lot of value in paid information too. And usually what you learn with paid information will only become available for free 6 months to a year later. This means that if you want to be ahead of everyone else, you need to spend money.

But what can I say… Some people want to make thousands of dollars blogging, but they are reluctant to spend $17 on an ebook that will save them 7 days of work… It’s up to them.

  2. Great article. With millions of blogs out there on everything from lifestyle design, to cooking, travel, exercise and everything under the sun that come and go, it is no wonder that there are unscrupulous individuals and companies that are now pushing their blogging software, or ‘programs’ to unwitting victims, much in the same way as was done with affiliate marketing.
I would like to see you write a part two to this article on the specifics of how successful bloggers make their money and the scams to avoid. Thank you.

    1. I am not sure writing about this would help you take decisions in any way. The best advice I could give you is to keep your eyes open and make decisions based on your own judgement.

What is written by most bloggers is a set of advice based on their own experience and this may or may not be the right fit for you…
