It’s always a good idea to keep up with the trends, blog about the day’s hottest topics. That’s what keeps your repeat traffic coming back for more. They know you’re the go-to source for the day’s hottest news.
But trends quickly fizzle and die on the Internet and that’s one of the reasons you’re in trouble. Chasing the news is exhausting but if that’s the only reason people are coming to your blog then you can’t afford to slack off, even for a day or two.

What’s evergreen content? Evergreen content is timeless. It’s not related to a season or a holiday or an event. Here’s how you tell the difference.
At Christmas time you might write a blog post about your favorite Christmas Chocolate Cake Recipe, using candy canes for decoration. That’s a trendy article that’s only going to get a lot of traffic at Christmas time.
A comparable evergreen article would be your favorite Chocolate Cake Recipe. Period. People look for a good chocolate cake recipe all year long but when they see that word Christmas in the title when it pops up on the index, they’re going to skip over it – unless it’s Christmas.
By adding evergreen content to your blog you’ll be attracting those readers who are looking for good, solid information all year long. And by writing evergreen content for your emergency blog posts you’ll be able to post them any time of year – whenever you need some time away from your blog.
How many posts should you have in your emergency stash?
That depends. If your readers expect a new post out of you every day, then you’ll want at least 10 posts on hand so you can take two weeks off and have a vacation or spend time with family, or even start another blog. Your current posting frequency will determine how many posts you should have backed up in case of emergency.
