Many people don’t know what’s the procedure of getting a website done from scratch but are still very much in sync with how it’s done.

It is crucial, however, for both the clients as well as developers to understand what goes down into making a website.

If website development services are doing the job, then the client’s website is in safe hands, for making websites and coding them to the roof is bread and butter for them. But for clients, the knowledge of the web development process plays an important role and opens a lot of new avenues.

The phases of website development can be divided into short bursts of tasks and operations rather than a long, objective-less sprint with no finish line. A meticulous website comes with a few frills and thrills but there should be a standard process of website development – one that has to be followed.

There’s a premonition in newbie developers that website development starts with coding, JavaScript, CSS and all the buzzwords alike. But in reality, the website development procedure begins much before that and continues till the last.

Essential Steps Involved in Website Development

Step I: Gathering the Information

The process of goal setting is rather crucial than developers think of it. It starts with setting up goals of what one expects from the website. What is the website about? What kind of content will be pushed on the website? Is there any idea of the target audience that this website would be having? What about competitive analysis? All these questions might sound like bottom drawer ones but are extremely crucial.

Step II: Planning it Out

Now that the research and development are done with partially complete and more of it will continue in due time, it’s time to get one’s hands dirty. Planning starts with creating a sitemap sketch that would give both the client and developer the idea of what’s going to be on the website. After this, the wireframe and mock-up of the website are crafted, which again would prove to be crucial.

There’s another crucial step that involves selecting the stack of technology, be it the programming language, frameworks or the CSS. Now that the planning has been compiled, let’s move on to designing.

Step III: Designing and Content Curation

A book is judged by its cover, isn’t it? By crafting colorful page layouts, getting them reviewed and re-working on them if the client wants to (which happens a lot, really), the website looks to get its aesthetics in check in this very step.

Once the layouts get finalized (and changed again because of clients, you know), we get set for content curation. This new content is brought to life by the writers and prepped up for migration. After this, the geeky stuff begins.

Step IV: Coding it out

A website comes to life with codes and the code is built and deployed on the website in the most pristine manner. If there are any special features, they are added and search engine optimization aka SEO of the website is considered here too. SEO is highly crucial for a website’s online prominence and brand management.

Step V: Test, Review, and Launch!

Now that the website is done with, it is tested repeatedly, checked for responsiveness and once all of it is given a green signal, the website is uploaded on the server. There’s one more launch of tests and then the website is launched. The next step just keeps going on with maintenance and updation of the website along with bug fixes.

Final Thoughts

Now that we know the five steps that are of utmost crucial nature when making a website from scratch even a newbie can work on it and try their hands on website development. As for the clients, well now they know how much of a pain it is! A proper foundation is crucial for a website – make sure that you build one!
