Monthly Income Report December 2018: -$671.28

It’s time for a quick recap of December!

I had high hopes for last month. During November, WS4 saw pretty fast growth, and I crossed my fingers hoping that December would be the same.

While December wasn’t as good as November (more about the reasons why below), it wasn’t too bad either.

All in all, I am quite satisfied with the results for December. Let’s jump into the first project to see exactly what happened.

E-commerce has been as uneventful as ever, mostly because I am not doing any work for my two stores.

I am just letting these two stores run their course until they stop being profitable. At which time I will simply close shop.

There was a small uptick in sales as Christmas approached, but nothing to get too excited about.

Based on the sales trend for these two stores, I think 2019 will be their last year and they will be closed before next December.

WS1 had me really excited in November as it almost hit $350.00 in revenue with zero work, but December has been a different story.

Traffic went down, clicks went down by almost 50%, and affiliate commissions plummeted to a mere $76.00.

I’m not going to lie: this was disappointing.

WS2 Website (Launched 2015)

October and November were decent for WS2 as the traffic was starting to get back up, but it didn’t last long, as traffic significantly decreased in December and revenue along with it.

This website is mostly an experimenting ground for me, as it generates so little revenue.

In 2019, I might work on a whole new funnel for this website to try generating affiliate commissions with some of that traffic.

As you can see in the chart and table above, there were some massive changes on this website in August 2018.

I had seen the revenue go down month after month and I didn’t have much to lose by making massive changes to this website.

The conversion rate and revenue skyrocketed in August and September right after I made the changes, but Google didn’t like these modifications, and traffic tanked.

I have no plans to do any more work on this particular website unless for some reason it starts getting some love from Google again.

WS4 Website (Launched 2018)

WS4 is still my main focus and I spend most of my time working on this website.

After more than doubling its revenue between October and November, I was hoping the trend would keep going.

But December is an odd month for retail sales: there’s a frenzy going on until a few days before Christmas, then crickets.

Once Christmas has passed, people spend time celebrating with their family, and there’s the “shopping hangover” when people realize that they went a little overboard with their Christmas shopping, so they cut their expenses until the end of the month.

When looking at my monthly stats, I can see a sharp drop during the last week of December.

This explains why this website generated less money in December than November.

But if you check the table above, you can still see that the average click-through rate and conversion rate were still up.

I am confident this website will keep converting fairly well, as long as it keeps receiving traffic.

This chart with data from Google Webmaster Tools shows that the overall visibility for this website is still increasing.

In December, this website had over 111.3k impressions on Google. These impressions resulted in roughly 1k clicks, which means an average click-through rate of 0.87%. The average position in Google results pages was 38.

The following chart shows the cumulated revenue and expenses to date for each month. Additionally, it shows the current website value as well as the return on investment before and after selling the website (if I decide to sell it).

From the start of this project until the end of last month, this website generated $2,103.21 in revenue. I spent $12,188.06 since this website’s inception, which means a net loss of $10,084.85. In other words, that’s an 83% loss so far.

However, by using a conservative 25x multiplier on the average revenue of the past 3 months, we can calculate this website value: $13,927.83. By selling this website, I would make a small profit of $3,842.98. That would be a 32% return on my investment.

Of course, I’m still years away from a potential sale for this website, but I’m keeping track of these numbers to know the trend, as well as the evolution month after month.

There was no major change on this blog. I still use it mostly to keep track of my various websites’ progress.

One new addition to the blog is the page sponsored blog posts, that allows people to submit guest posts.

I keep receiving emails asking if I accept guest posts on this blog, so I figured that instead of copy/pasting the same email over and over again, I should just create a page with all the requirements.

On a different subject, here is a list of the 10 most popular articles from this blog during last month:

  1. entrepreneurship is living a few years…
  2. how to make money online building your own custom search engine
  3. how to make money online generating leads for local real estate agents
  4. how to make money online with arbitrage
  5. Shopify partner program

  9. how to make money with an online local business directory
  10. make money online

What about the money?

Here is a breakdown of the money flow for my various projects.

To make this report easier to understand, I’m using a simple color code: green numbers are positive, red numbers are negative.

Please keep in mind that these figures may not be 100% accurate due to various factors such as refund requests and network adjustments. The terms for each payment may also vary. As a result, these numbers may differ from the actual payments issued and received.

I know what you might be thinking: “another month, another loss”.

This doesn’t worry me too much at this point because I’m investing in new content for WS4 every single month.

It’s not as if I was spending money on things that vanish by the end of the month.

I’m building an asset that could potentially generate money for years to come.

This chart doesn’t look so great, but I’m not worried (yet).

What’s happening next?

January is going to be the time to reflect on 2018 and decide on my plan of action for this new year.

I already have a few ideas to implement to increase my bottom line.

I’ll tell you more about all of this next month…

Stay tuned for the next update!
