On the World Wide Web, deep linking is making a hyperlink that points to a specific page or image on a website, instead of that website’s main or home page. Such links are called deep links.

Deep links are good for your Readers

If you succeed in creating links to your previous posts whenever you are creating new blog posts, it may help your readers discover old content from your blog that they didn’t know about. Keep in mind that your readers are not all old-timers.

Some of the people reading Dukeo may have discovered through one of the most recent posts I made. If I want them to discover older articles, I can point them toward valuable content. It’s a win-win situation.

Deep links are good for Search Engines

Deep links are also very useful for search engines. It increases the value of your older pages because each link is considered as a vote for this page.

Deep links and Anchor Text

I already explained the value of the anchor text in my article titled “Improve your Anchor Text for better Search Results” and I invite you to read it in order to have a better understanding of this point.

Do you see any other benefit to deep linking your old posts?

When you're learning search engine optimization, you need to understand that the very first step is to create a website. If you want to start your own blog, I have written a step-by-step guide that will show you how to start a blog for as little as $3.95 per month (this low price is guaranteed only through my link). You will also receive your own domain name for free ($15 value) by clicking on this link and purchasing at least 12 months of hosting with BlueHost. Keep in mind that if you're learning how to optimize website for search engines, the first thing you need is your own self-hosted website. It will help you look more professional in front of your visitors, clients, companies, and everyone else, including search engines.

I think using linking in a post is quite good if you’re using intext ads such as infolinks, vibrating media and etc. Because those ads actually embed with your links, and sometimes your reader might just be tricked into clicking those ads.

  2. Sarah

I like how you illustrated your point by creating tons and tons of links in this post! Leading by example! ;)

  3. Chris

I do remember this from that other post! Glad you decided to write more about. Oh, and I’m definitely going to look at that anchor article now. See? It’s working already.

  4. Anon

I like that “win-win” part. I’m going to nerd out and quote Star Trek right here: “I don’t believe in no-win scenarios.”

  5. Affmaster

@Yuri, you’re exactly right. Embedding links to ads is an effective albeit maybe a bit sneaky way to get more ad clicks. It’s something I’ve done in the past and I’ve seen quite a bit of success from it. I guess it’s true that great minds think alike!

  6. Michelle

I had never really thought of it like that, but I guess it is something I should try to do more often, goodness knows I could use all the SEO help I can get. Thanks for the informative article!

Probably, using deep links can truly bring many interesting opportunities and chances. And as a result you’ll have a win-win situation

  8. Mitch

What also helps is linking to other similar blogs that have related content, and working out a deal with them that they will link back to your content as well. Another win-win-win scenario!

  9. Liz

Oooh I like all of these ideas to bring more traffic! @Mitch that’s a good one! Networking and working together, huzzah!!

  10. Posicionamiento Web

Deep linking is definitely for winners! It helps keep those older posts alive…
