Pinterest And Ecommerce – A Match Made In Heaven

Pinterest is a fairly new social medium that has become extremely popular since the start of 2012. It’s not on the same level as Facebook or Twitter just yet, but it’s picking up new users by the thousand on a daily basis.

If you run an ecommerce business and you’ve not yet started to use Pinterest, now is definitely the time to do so.

What is Pinterest?

Although it falls under the definition of social media, Pinterest is a lot different from its nearest rivals like Facebook and Twitter.

The whole idea behind Pinterest is that it acts like a virtual pinboard, where you can pin pictures and other things for your friends and followers to marvel at.

It’s a really fresh idea, and a lot of companies out there are already taking advantage by using it to market their products.

Using Pinterest to market your website

The easiest way in which you can use Pinterest to market your website is to pin pictures that are published on your site using your Pinterest account. There is a textbox underneath each picture to include a link back to your website – so should people like the products you’re posting pictures of, they can go back to your website and purchase their own.

As with any other social media website, you need to have a lot of time on your hands in order to build up a good following. It doesn’t take long at all to pin pictures on Pinterest, the time consuming part is about attracting followers and people to look at your pictures.

If you just don’t have the time required to make your Pinterest marketing campaign a success, it’s well worth outsourcing it to someone who does have the time.

Getting traction on Pinterest can be rather slow and it could be weeks or even months before you start to see some kind of return for your efforts. If you keep plugging away at it however, the returns will come.

There are websites out there with stats about Pinterest – one of the key stats to bear in mind is that Pinterest’s user database is formed of a majority of girls.

That doesn’t mean that marketing to men isn’t possible on there, but it does mean that Pinterest is suited mainly to those brands that are selling products targeted at girls. Beauty, cosmetics and fashion products all do the best on Pinterest because they grab attention.

Pinterest is just another source of traffic for website owners to tap. It’s not a tap that you can turn on and off at will – in order to get a lot of traffic from Pinterest you have to put in a lot of work.

That’s not to say that the effort isn’t worth it however because it is.

If you’re looking to cut your website’s reliance on search engine traffic it’s time for you to look into Pinterest marketing.

“Pinterest’s user database is formed of a majority of girls…” – Did you mean “women” perhaps? There’s a big difference.
