Online Marketing & SEO: There’s More To It Thank You Think
With the recent Google updates wiping out a large portion of income for a lot of people who relied heavily upon on SEO for website traffic and sales, it has become more important than ever for website owners to diversify.
Instead of putting all of your eggs in one basket – in this case the basket being WordPress SEO, you need to spread them out so that you’ve got traffic coming in from various different sources.
SEO traffic has long been the traffic of choice with webmasters because it’s “free” and because it converts well. This highly targeted traffic has been relatively easy to tap in the past because it wasn’t hard at all to “game” search engines.
With recent search engine updates wiping out the effectiveness of a lot of SEO techniques, lots of people are now turning away from SEO for good.
Social media is a great source of website traffic and sales. The problem with social media is that it takes months or even years to build up a good following – and just because you have a large following doesn’t mean that those people will convert into sales.
Social media is a growing platform through which companies market – when you look on sites like Facebook and Twitter you’ll see an increasing number of multinational companies advertising on them, so it’s clear that there is some serious benefit to social media marketing.
If you don’t have the time to devote to social media marketing don’t just give up on the idea. Instead why not pay a social media manager to do it all for you? Often outsourcing to a social media manager is relatively cheap and the results can be outstanding.
Pay per click
Paid clicks are slowly taking over the search engine results. Just look at how much space on the first page of Google is now dedicated to paid listings as opposed to five years ago.
Pay per click (PPC) traffic definitely isn’t cheap, but it’s almost like a tap that you can turn on and off when you please.
SEO can take years to come to fruition for websites whereas a website that’s just an hour old can receive PPC traffic. Paid clicks are not cheap, but they’re very effective.
Other online marketing methods
Sponsored editorials in newspapers and on popular blogs are also good forms of online marketing. If you sell socks, why not buy a sponsored post on a fashion blog for men?
The amount of click through traffic and sales that your site makes should offset the cost.
Email marketing is also extremely popular – once you have a consumer’s email address you’re able to pump messages directly into their inbox – you can build a relationship with them.
There’s so much more out there than just SEO, so make sure you spread the risk to your business by making sure it’s not reliant on search engine traffic.
If your business could survive if search engines fell off the face of the earth tomorrow, you’re in a very a good position.
