Money Magnet: How To Attract Money Traffic To Your Blog

I think sometimes bloggers get too caught up in the whole “keyword research” thing. Am I doing it right? What’s the “exact” number versus the “broad” and which one should I use if I want to attract “money” traffic instead of people who are just looking for information? It’s simple common sense, really. Just ask yourself two questions:

Question #1: Who Would Be Interested In Buying This Product?

Let’s start off with a product we can use for an example. Let’s use Ceiling fans. For your first round of keywords do some brainstorming and ask yourself who would be interested in buying this product.

  • Renters
  • People in warm climates
  • People in cool climates
  • People who want to save on their energy bills
  • People who want to save the environment
  • Contractors
  • Developers
  • Interior designers

Questions #2: What Questions Would They Ask Before They Open Their Wallet?

Now, for those longtail keywords that attract the “money” traffic, do some more brainstorming and think of the questions that each group of people would ask if they were already thinking about buying a ceiling fan.

To better explain, I’ll show you examples of articles that attract homeowners looking for more information and articles that attract homeowners who are ready to buy.

Questions that attract people looking for more information:

  • Will a ceiling fan help me save money on my energy bills?
  • How will a ceiling fan help me save money on my energy bills?
  • Is it safe to use a ceiling fan in the nursery?
  • Will a ceiling fan add value to my home?
  • Can I use a ceiling fan on my deck?

The following questions attract “money” traffic. They indicate that the searcher has clearly made up his mind he wants a ceiling fan, now he just needs help deciding which one to buy.

  • Which ceiling fan will help me save the most money on my energy bills?
  • Which ceiling fan is best in a nursery?
  • What to look for when choosing a ceiling fan for the deck
  • Choosing the right ceiling fan for your bathroom
  • Where to place ceiling fans to increase your home’s resale value

Why You Need To Answer Both Types Of Questions

It’s important to remember that most people will have several informational questions before they even decide the want to purchase a ceiling fan. In the example above I listed five informational questions a homeowner would ask and that barely scratches the surface.

If you don’t answer all of these potential questions on your blog then your visitor is going to go somewhere else to find the answer, even if they’re only one question away from making that buying decision. This is why it’s so important to use internal linking to lead your visitors to more relevant information on your own blog.

Answer all those basic questions for people who are just beginning their search but understand the difference between traffic that’s looking for information and “money” traffic. When you answer those buying questions, too, that’s when you’ll start making money.
