Once you’ve been blogging as long as I have you’ll realize that there are an unlimited number of ways you can make money with your blog and, if you do it right, you can make a lot of money. The same can be said for just about any type of business. But, how do you start a blog, or any business, and turn it into a million dollar business?

Admit You’re In It For The Money

Are you the type of blogger who just wants to help people? You just want to share your knowledge and bring enlightenment to the world? You really don’t care if you make money, you just want to provide information? Isn’t that sweet? How’s that workin’ out?

No successful business person starts a business because he wants to help people and spread good cheer. It doesn’t make good business sense. To build a business you have to invest lots of time, money and good, old-fashioned elbow grease. His business might provide a valuable service and it might make people very happy, but he started the business because he wanted to make money. That’s it. Pure and simple.

Now, the standard advice is that you should blog about something you’re passionate about, because you’re going to be blogging for a very long time so you want to choose a topic that will hold your interest. That’s true, to a certain extent. But, stop and think about it – You’re going to have to write at least one blog post or article every day for years to come. You’re going to spend hours each day working in this niche. No matter how much you love whatever the topic is, eventually you’re going to get sick of it., unless you’re also passionate about building a business.

When you’re creating something for the pure fun of creating then you’re a hobbyist, you can stop any time you want and it doesn’t matter if you make any money or not. If you have that kind of mindset then you’re not really committed to building a business. And if you’re not committed, it’s not going to happen. So go ahead and admit it – you’re blogging to make money.

You Have To Treat It Like A Business

Read the celebrity gossip sites and you’ll always see articles about this successful business person visiting a tropical resort and that successful business person touring the world. You rarely see pictures of them actually working so it seems like all it takes to build a million dollar business is a penchant for fun. Nothing could be further from the truth,.

If you want to build a business then you have to treat it like a business. That means you have to learn everything you can about the mechanics, your audience, and what it takes to build your brand in the Internet Marketplace. You have to be organized. You have to have good business skills and be creative. You have to be willing to learn and willing to take risks.

Most of all, you have to be willing to put in hours of concentrated effort each and every day for as long as it takes to build a multi-tiered business that produce long-term sustainable income, because you can’t build a million dollar business with just one blog. You have to be committed to doing whatever it takes to achieve your goal.

    I admit IT… I’m in IT for the #money…and the #FreeStuff …and to #HelpPeople!!! #BUSTED!!!

    1. It’s interesting to see in what order you are listing your interests ;) 1/ Money, 2/ free stuff, 3/ helping people.

Steven, one point is very important that is “I’m a hobbyist”. I was doing the same in past, helping & helping people but I was not taking anything to turn them into paying customers. I read some of the articles of Richard Branson and it turns my mind map into actionable steps. Today, it’s a good reminder to keep things going. Do you believe having landing pages on website/blog to attract potential customers?

    1. Tufail, having landing pages on your blog is absolutely essential to convert visitors into leads. Just can just take a look at my “Newsletter” and “About” pages: they are designed to turn people into subscribers.
