Link Crawling Services: Any Difference With Indexing Services?
There’s a lot of confusion out there as to what the difference is between link indexing services, and link crawling services. There are plenty of each out there, so it’s always a good idea to know what each service does.
The more links in the index of a search engine that point to your website, the more popular your website will appear. This is why people care so much about having their backlinks indexed – because if they’re not, all the work that went into creating them is wasted.
When you post a new article on your site or make a new page, you’ll usually find that it gets crawled by bots from search engines like Bing, Google and Yahoo. The bot, or spider as they’re sometimes called, will analyze your page in an effort to establish whether or not your page is in fact worth indexing.
With link crawling all you do is sign up for a service then enter the URLs that you’d like crawled. There’s no guarantee that the links will be indexed, but most services do offer some kind of guarantee that X amount will at least be crawled.
In order to increase the chances of your links being indexed once you’ve put them into a crawling service, you should make sure that they contain completely unique content. There’s usually no need to run a crawling or indexing service on your own website, by submitting your sitemap to Google’s Webmaster Tools, your links will usually be crawled and indexed automatically. Crawling and indexing is more useful when it comes to your site’s backlinks.
For a link to be indexed, it has to be crawled. The main difference between crawling and indexing services is that indexing services actively try to encourage the search engines to index the page – whereas crawl services just encourage the spiders to crawl the page, with no guarantee it will be indexed. In order to increase the chances of your link being indexed, indexing services tend to build more backlinks to the links you put into their system. The theory is that any link that has backlinks running to it is seen as important by the search engines, and a lot of the time this does work.
Although indexing services do their best to get links indexed in Google, there’s no service out there that boasts a 100% indexing rate, and there are many reasons for this.
Which is best?
It’s impossible to say which service is best really when it comes to WordPress SEO, each type has its own merits. If you’re attempting to get lots of links indexed that have unique high quality content on them, then you’ll probably be fine with just a crawling service. If you have a lot of links from mass submission tools however, you may find that your links need to be put through an indexing service in order to have them indexed properly – just having them crawled might not be sufficient.
