Any time you start talking about making money with local businesses in some way people get all freaked out. You want to make money online. You don’t want to have to go traipsing around the city calling on people, begging for business. You want to work from home, in your jammies, and you don’t want to have to get up at the crack of dawn to do it. Well, don’t worry. Here’s how to make money online with local business premium mailers. And you can do it from the comfort of your own home.
First of all, what’s a premium mailer, right? You’ve probably seen plenty and just don’t realize what they are. All those shiny brochures you get in your mail from the local insurance guy or the local vet or your local car dealership? Those are premium mailers. Also included in the mix are nice envelopes, and calendars, and business cards and other promotional materials.
Business use these mailers as advertising but the word premium means they’re also using them to make an impression. Those mailers are a lot nicer – and a lot more expensive – than just some flyer you run off on the office Xerox machine. (Do they even make Xerox machines anymore?) And they want something of exceptional quality that the recipient will hold onto for a while.
Now, someone has to design those mailers and if you’re good at that sort of thing you can make a lot of money at it. And a lot of websites are going to tell you that all you need to do is make some kind of an arrangement with your local printer and he’ll give you a discount. Well, first of all, no local printer is going to give you a discount. And second, why bother? Let’s do this all online!
There are two ways you can go about this business. First, if you’re going to be doing the design work yourself, you’ll need to set up a website to promote your design services. Make sure you include a lot of sample designs that highlight your best work.
You’ll also need to include a page that explains your services – what you’ll design, your fee structure, your delivery information, etc. And you’ll need to provide contact information, too, like an email address and a phone number, so clients can contact you if they have questions.
If you want to do this all online, without trying to ‘cut a deal with a local printer’ then you’re going to have to know what your costs are going to be so you can calculate your fees. Visit websites like Vistaprint.com to find out what they charge for custom printing. There are dozens of websites that handle all types of custom printing and you’ll want to find one or two who offer they types of services you need.
If you’re a great designer, setting up a site to promote your own unique designs might be the best way to go. Once you start getting your name out there you’ll become popular because you offer something that your competitor can’t.
Your other option is to set up an affiliate website and let an online printing house handle everything, from the design to the printing to the delivery. Again, do an Internet search for websites who provide custom printing and look to see if they have an affiliate program. If they do, sign up, put their banner on your website, and start building an affiliate site.
There’s always a need for quality promotional printing and if you’re not into the design end of the business then setting up an affiliate website or blog is your best bet.
Either way you go, you’re going to have to promote your site so people can find it. The first thing you need to do is make sure you have some quality content. Post some articles that explain your product – whether you’re promoting your own designs or an affiliate program. People need to know they can rely on you before they’re going to feel comfortable ordering.
Next, you can set up a Fan page on Facebook and start connecting with businesses. Start with you local businesses first. You’ll feel more comfortable chatting with you own local companies and it will give you a chance to find out what people are looking for and polish up your website.
Once you learn how easy it is to make money online with premium mailers, you’re going to want to branch out into wedding stationery or greeting cards and customized promotional items. The sky’s the limit when you start working online so be careful – it’s addicting!
