How To Make Money Online With Clickbank
Ahhh, Clickbank. Every affiliate marketer starts off with Clickbank and it’s no wonder. Clickbank accepts anyone – no application necessary. Just sign up, get your affiliate link and start promoting. Yet, out of the thousands of newbie affiliate marketers who sign on with Clickbank every year, only a very small percent are able to earn a decent income. Clickbank, however, continues to thrive, year after year. So somebody must be selling something. What’s the secret? How do you make money online with Clickbank when it seems like only a select few ever actually see a check?
How To Make Money Online As A Clickbank Publisher
To make money online as a Clickbank publisher the most important thing you need to do is stick with it. I could write a dozen books on different marketing methods you can use and I can give you all the advice in the world about choosing the best products to promote. But, in the end, the one reason most affiliates fail to be successful with Clickbank products is because they don’t stick with it long enough to get that first pay-out.
Let me explain a little about how Clickbank works. Clickbank makes money 4 ways. First, they charge the advertiser one flat fee for placing his product on their site. Then, they charge the advertiser a very small percentage of each sale. They also collect a $2.50 handling fee from the advertiser and you, the publisher, every time they send you a check. These are all very small fees and they do add up over time, but it’s their fourth method of generating income that’s the downfall of most new affiliates.
Before Clickbank will send you your first check, you have to achieve $100 in commissions AND the sales you generated must be paid for with 5 or more different credit card numbers. The kicker is – Paypal payments do not count toward this goal. Paypal is the most popular payment processor on the planet yet, until you reach that goal of 5 different credit cards, Clickbank will not release your first check! And to top it all off, they charge your account $1 per day if you go 90 days without earnings.
Now, when you’re a new affiliate, you might luck out and generate that first $100 in your first week. But you have no control over how the buyer chooses to pay for the product, and most choose to use Paypal these days. You also might not make another good sale for a few more months. Affiliates have been known to walk away from $500 or $1000 or more in their Clickbank accounts because they aren’t patient enough to stick around and wait for that first pay-out and they’re not creative enough to find a way around it.
Once you get that first pay-out then all the requirements ease up. So if you still can’t get those last one or two credit cards, log out of your Clickbank account and use your own credit cards to make a purchase, have family or friends buy something with their credit cards. Get down on your knees and beg everyone on your list to make that last purchase! Whatever it takes, just do it and get it out of the way! Then you can really start making some money.
How To Make Money Online As A Clickbank Advertiser
Once you’ve learned a thing or two about affiliate marketing, your next step, if you really want to make money online, is to become a Clickbank Advertiser. And, just as it’s easy to become a publisher, it’s also very easy to become one of their advertisers. Their approval process has nothing at all to do with your product. All they’re concerned about is that you have a proper landing page, a Thank You page and that the download works. Then, you’re on your way.
As a publisher you’ve probably looked around the various products at Clickbank and noticed that most pay in the area of 75% commission. So your first question is probably – how can it be more profitable to be an advertiser than it is to be a publisher?
The answer is back end sales and upsells. The reason that advertisers like to list their products at Clickbank is because they’re allowed to offer you whatever commission they want. And the advertiser knows that, the higher the commission, the harder YOU are going to work to promote his product. There are a lot of advertisers who would happily pay you 100% commission, if they could get away with it, because it means more sales.
But if they’re giving you 75% of each sale then it would appear that they’re not making much in the bargain. Keep in mind, though, that thousands of affiliate marketers, just like you, promote Clickbank products every day. There might be hundreds of you all promoting the same hot product!
But savvy advertisers don’t stop with that measly 25%. If you actually purchase some of the digital Clickbank products you’re promoting you’ll find that they’re loaded with links that lead to special offers, upsells, and back end products. Generally, these offers are more expensive and the advertiser doesn’t pay you any commission for those sales. So basically, Clickbank advertisers are using YOU to promote their products – to help promote their higher end offers.
If you’re new to affiliate marketing, Clickbank is a great place to start because it’s so easy to access. Just remember, though, it might take you a little while to get that first pay-out – so don’t give up! The best way to make money online with Clickbank is to stick with it, learn how the affiliate marketing business works, and then move on to being a Clickbank advertiser.
