Google AdSense Alternatives: What Are The Good Ones?

Steven 2 responses Internet Marketing

You’re not the first person to ask, “What are the alternatives to Google Adsense?” and between you and me, my answer is, “Just about anything is a better alternative to AdSense!” But, I know, that doesn’t really answer your question. Since we’re talking about your business here you’d probably prefer I turn off the sarcasm and give you something a little more concrete. So let’s get to it.

Why Would You Want An Alternative To AdSense?

Before we get started let me explain the pros and cons of AdSense so you can make a more informed decision.

To be successful with AdSense you really have to understand organic search because it relies completely on keywords. If you’re good at keyword selection and targeting your market then you’ll do well with AdSense, and these are skills that are easy to learn with just a little practice. Of course, the more skillful you are, the better you’ll do.

On the downside, Google owns AdSense, which might seem pretty obvious. But underneath that “obvious” connection you have to realize that Google also owns or has interests in several other online companies and Google makes the bulk of their money off their Adsense revenues. In other words, Google is a very large company that controls a large part of Internet Business and search, and their main concern is profit. Their profit – not yours.

Without going into any gorey details, Google is currently under investigation, accused of manipulating search results to benefit their own businesses and the advertisers who are willing to ante up. Whether this is true or not, Google has the ability to manipulate search results and when anyone has the ability to effect your income potential you should always think twice about how large of a role you allow them to play in your business. Now, ’nuff said, lets’ move on…

Alternatives To Google AdSense

If you’re successful with AdSense and you’re just looking for a more profitable alternative then that means you have a good understanding of organic search, keywords and how to target a market. Any of the following options would work for your blog:

  • Sell ad space to other bloggers
  • Promote affiliate products
  • Use contextual ads like Konterra on your blog
  • Promote CPA offers
  • Promote CPC offers
  • Promote your own product or service

If you’re not successful with AdSense it’s probably because you’re not experienced enough yet with keywords and target marketing. Even if you think you are, there’s a tight level of focus required to make a lot of money with AdSense. Be that as it may, here are some alternatives that would work on your blog, but only if you’re bringing in some traffic.

  • Become an affiliate
  • Promote CPA offers
  • Sell ad space to other bloggers
  • Promote your own product or service

Ads that rely completely on keyword targeting, like AdSense, Konterra or CPC offers, work best if you have a large, targeted, consistent traffic count or if you’re able to use PPC advertising to drive that traffic. All of that means you need to understand organic search, keywords and target marketing.

But don’t beat yourself up if you don’t. There are plenty of bloggers out there in the same boat you are and they have successful blogs. Play to your strengths and work on your weaknesses and you won’t have any trouble monetizing your blog.

  1. I really like eBay ads and Infolinks for alternatives to Adsense. Infolinks can earn just as much as Adsense from my experience. And Chitika is ok for a third group of ads on the site, but the income is small.

    1. Hey Steve! I wouldn’t say that Infolinks by itself can make as much money as Adsense. But if you combine it with other income streams, this is definitely going to add up.
