No matter how long you’ve been blogging you’re going to have good days and bad. Everyone does. There’s always something new to learn, you’re always reaching for new goals, and every now and then you’re just going to have a bad day, or maybe even make a dreadful mistake. But that’s life. It happens to everyone. They key is to keep cool and never give up.
When I started blogging I had no computer skills at all. I didn’t even really know what a blog was and I certainly didn’t know how they worked or how you could make money with one. So you can imagine how intimidated I was when I started setting up my first blog.
I’ve learned a lot over the years and now I can set up a new blog in a matter of minutes. I’ve even learned a lot about HTML, CSS and how to go in and customize my blog. But my biggest fear has always been that I would do something that would crash my blog, because I still have no idea how to fix it.
Well, one day it actually happened. I was messing around installing and uninstalling plugins, not really paying attention because I’d done it about a million times before. One of the plugins had a bug I wasn’t aware of and when I uninstalled it it brought my whole blog crashing down around my ears.
Of course I panicked. I tried everything I could think of and nothing worked. I ran to my Twitter account and asked for help but nothing they told me would work either. Finally, I calmed down and resigned myself to the fact that I was just going to have to start all over again and then it hit me – call my hosting company! Fifteen minutes later my blog was back up and running, good as new.
So now when I’m working on some new project that has me scared out of my wits, I stop and put things into perspective. What’s the worst that could happen? Well, the wost that could happen is that my blog would crash. But I’ve already lived through that once and I know I could fix it if it happened again. It wasn’t the end of the world. Now, I’m not so intimidated when I try something new. In fact, now I welcome the new challenges because I always learn something from them, even if it’s just that I can make a mistake and keep moving forward.
Many bloggers get upset when they make a mistake and they’re too frazzled to find a solution, they can’t see the forest for the trees. And when they can’t find a solution they eventually just give up. But, I learned my lesson. When you’re working online there are very few mistakes you can make that are permanent. Most of them can be fixed. If you stay calm and keep your cool you can usually find a solution. So don’t give up when you come up on an obstacle. Just keep moving forward and everything will work out in the end.
