Do Not Fear Failing or Doing New Things
Let me be blunt: If you’re afraid of failing or you’re one of those people who’s afraid to try new things you’re not going to last long in the blogging world. Oh, you’ll make it for a little while and you might even make a few bucks. But there’s just too much you need to know to scale your business beyond the $20 a month level. Let’s take a look at what happens when you’re afraid to step up your game plan.
There are already millions of blogs on the Internet. If you’re afraid to be the first one to try something new then that means there will already be thousands of blogs trying that new technique before you get up enough guts to give it a shot yourself. Which means your competitors are always going to be at least one step ahead of you.
New technological advances are made every day. Software is updated, new programs are introduced, even the services you use like Aweber or WordPress make changes every day. If you’re too afraid to learn about new technology and use it to your advantage, your competitors are going to leave you in the dust.
There’s absolutely no shame in admitting your fear. The shame lies in letting that fear control your actions. The entire blogging community has to constantly be willing to learn and adapt to changes and you’re not the only blogger who’ll make mistakes. Everyone does. But the great thing about running your own business is there’s no one there breathing over your shoulder. Most of your mistakes will never be seen by anyone other than you.
The definition of success is achieving a goal and if you think about it, each step along the way is a miniature goal. Maybe you want to earn $1,000 a month with your blog. If you set up a campaign and only make $100, then you didn’t fail, you just moved one step closer to your goal. All you have to do now is rinse and repeat at a bigger level.
Failing to do something doesn’t mean you have to stop. It just means you need to try again. And eventually you’re going to reach your goal because you learn something from each failed attempt.
There will always be new things you have to learn if you want to keep growing your online business, it’s just the nature of the best. There will always be new techniques to bring in more traffic or increase your sales. Instead of focusing on that huge goal you’ve set yourself, look at all the little successes you’ve had.
Did you ever think you’d be able to sit down and set up a blog? Did you ever dream you’d be making even $100 a month from home? Did you every even consider the possibility that you might someday own your own business? Probably not. But here you are. Now quit worrying about failure and keep up the good work.
