What Is Original Content?
In every niche there are certain topics that everyone talks about. For example, in the make money online niche, every blogger at some point covers how to choose a theme for your blog, and it’s pretty basic information. You choose a theme based on the same guidelines no matter what blog you’re reading.
If you present those same basic guidelines to your readers then you’re giving them valuable information that they need to know, but you’re not being unique or original, you’re merely repeating the same basic information that can be found on hundreds of other blogs.
But, if you continue on in your post and tell readers why you chose the theme you’re using, and maybe some of the disasters that occurred with other themes you tried, then you’re making your content original and unique, and you’re providing additional value for your readers – your telling them about your own personal experiences with themes that work and themes that failed.
How To Add Originality To Your Posts
Relaying basic information is important. Your readers need to know and if you don’t tell them they’ll just go somewhere else to find it. So don’t stop sharing this basic information, but find a way to make it unique and original for your readers.
Express your opinion: Give your readers the information and then tell them what you think about it and why you feel the way you do.
Do a case study: Go ahead and install that WordPress theme. Track your results and present a case study for your readers. How did it work? What did you have to change? Would you recommend it?
Apply it to your readers: I always like to present the information and then say, “Now, what this means to you is this…“ In other words, tell you readers how they can use this information to change something in their lives. Of course, you’re going to have to know your readers before you can do this.
Ask your readers what they think: Give your readers the information, tell them the pros and cons, and then throw it out to them and ask for their opinion.
Be controversial: Being controversial doesn’t mean you have to be rude or argumentative. It just means presenting an opposing viewpoint, and controversial posts often end up being some of the most popular content on your blog. Even if you don’t disagree with the idea topic you’re discussing, play devil’s advocate, anyway. Some of your readers do disagree and you’ll be giving them an opportunity to finally express their point of view.
Creating original content means you have to take a deliberate and active approach to your blogging. But that original content is what sets your blog apart from all the others.
