Blogging: It’s All About The Content
Some bloggers agonize over choosing the perfect domain name. Others spend days choosing the perfect theme and the perfect colors.. Sill others research keywords like they’re putting together a college thesis. In the end, your success as a blogger comes down to one thing: It’s all about the content. Your content is really the only reason people visit your blog.
If you think about it, you probably have plenty of friends whose homes aren’t decorated to your liking, yet you visit them on a regular basis because you value them as a person, you like the variety they add to your life and the conversation and exchange of information. The same holds true for your blog. Making a good first impression is important but, in the end, it’s the value you add to your reader’s life that counts.
Focus On Creating Great Content
Naturally, you want to put your best foot forward so do spend some time choosing a nice theme that compliments your content. And it’s important to choose a short, easy-to-spell domain name. Once that’s done it’s time to focus on your content.
Bloggers today communicate using a variety of content – text, video, infographics, and podcasting – so don’t think you have to stick with writing if writing isn’t your strong point. In fact, if you mix it up on your blog it helps to keep things exciting and interesting.
In the beginning you’ll want to do that extensive keyword research so you can find out what information people are searching for. After a while, though, it becomes second nature, especially once you start engaging and interacting with your readers.
What does “great” content mean? The key is to answer one question at a time as completely as possible. Using one keyword and answering one question makes it easier for your readers to understand and absorb your blog post, but it also makes for better SEO.
Now, whether you choose to answer that question in a blog post or with a video or infographic is entirely up to you. Only you know what it takes to connect with your specific audience.
Make It Easy For Your Readers To Share
Great content means sharable content, the two go hand-in-hand. So think about the types of content you share with your friends and fellow bloggers. What videos do you share on Facebook? What links do you share on Twitter? And when your share, what gets the biggest response from your followers?
Internet readers love sharing humorous content, killer images like infographics, vidoes, and list or link posts. Every single blog post doesn’t have to be a work of art but you should focus on creating great, sharable content at least once a week. Learning how to make a video or graphic might be time-consuming in the beginning but it doesn’t take long before you’re a pro.
Next, make sure you have sharing buttons on your blog. You’d be surprised how many blogs don’t have even a Twitter or Facebook button. A lot of your readers have no idea how to share content without those buttons, they don’t know they can just copy and paste the link. So make it easy for your readers to share your great content by installing sharing buttons on your blog.
