Blogging Black Belt: How To Get Yours
To reach the level of Black Belt in Karate you have to master certain skills. It helps to be able to use those skills in creative combinations to best your opponent, but in the end, he who has the stronger skills will generally win the competition. This same concept applies to blogging. To earn your blogging Black Belt, young grasshopper, you must first master the skills.
Wax on. Wax off.
A lot of blogging tasks are boring and dull. Every day you write another blog post about the same old topic. Every day you comment on the same old blogs. Every day you work on linkbuilding, social networking, and writing, writing and more writing.
Like Daniel Larusso in “The Karate Kid” you might not see the point in repeating these tasks day after day after day. Each task, taken alone, seems to be just busy work, it doesn’t seem like it’s really accomplishing anything. But each of these tasks, or skills, you’re learning, when combined into a plan of attack, will help you build a stronger blog.
Your focus needs more focus
In the “Karate Kid” remake, Mr. Han told Dre, “Your focus needs more focus.” There are several aspects of blogging that require your focus. Creating unique, engaging content, identifying your audience, keyword research and even all those little repetitive tasks mentioned above.
It’s even more important that you learn to focus on your overall business. Too many bloggers don’t take their blogs seriously enough. When a friend drops by or their favorite TV show comes on, they’re up, away from the computer and out the door. If you want to build a strong online business, then you have to treat it like a business and give it your complete, undivided attention just like you would any other business you were trying to build.
Either you Karate do “yes” or Karate do “no”
If you want to one day be on that A-list of bloggers then there is no in between. Like Mr. Miyagi says, “Either you Karate do yes or Karate do no, but you can not do Karate guess so.”
The Internet is knee-deep in abandoned blogs and they were all created by people who thought it would be neat to “try” to make money with a blog. The problem is they weren’t committed to the effort.
There is no “try” about it. If you’re motivated and willing to put in the time and do the work you will most assuredly make money with your blog. But if you give yourself the automatic escape route by saying you’re just going to give it a “try” then you’re already setting yourself up for a fall.
If you want to get your Black Belt in blogging, you need to be able to approach it like a true Karate Master: Fear does not exist in this blog! Pain does not exist in this blog! And Defeat does not exist in this blog!
