Blog Working Hours: How Many Hours Do You Dedicate To Your Blog?

It doesn’t really matter how many hours a day you spend working on your blog. Some bloggers can only spare an hour a day because they have a full-time job, and other bloggers spend 8, 12, or even 16 hours a day. In the end it all comes down to two questions: How are you spending your time? And, how soon do you want to start making money?

Now, some bloggers are going to tell you that in the beginning there’s no reason to spend more than a couple of hours a day working on your blog. You don’t have any traffic yet so what’s there to work on other than writing tomorrow’s blog post? Don’t bother introducing yourself to these guys because they’re not going to be around long.

If you want to build a successful blog that brings in steady, long-term income, then you need to treat it like a business and devote as many hours as you can to it each and every day. If you only have one hour then you have to put your nose to the grindstone for that entire hour. If you can spare 16 hours, and you can stay focused, you’ll reach your goal that much sooner.

There’s so much to learn when you’re working online. And, while it’s true that in the beginning you won’t have much traffic, you could be spending your time learning how to generate that traffic faster. You could be polishing your writing skills and stockpiling content for your blog.

You could be studying other blogs to learn what makes them successful. You can learn how to make videos, how to set up and syndicate a podcast, how to install an opt-in form and start building a list.

The list of things you need to learn to build a successful money-making blog is endless. Even big-name bloggers have to learn something new every day in order to keep their business moving forward.

Does that mean you can’t ever take time off? Or, does it mean it’s going to take forever to build your business if you can only spare a couple of hours a day? No. Not at all.

Your drive, commitment, and motivation will have a lot to do with how quickly you grow your business. Your willingness to learn what you need to know and stay focused during the time you do have will also play a role.

You’ll need to take time off every now and then just to regroup and maintain your sanity, especially if you’re working a full-time job and have family and friends you want to stay connected with.

    Most important thing about a blog is its content.
    If others find it interesting they will come and visit your blog.
    So, you need to have a topic about what others want to read or inform about.
    Beside that it should be possible for others to navigate easily through your blog.
    About how many time I spent:
    Between 30min up to several hours. Depending on motivation, new ideas I want to bring to my blog and free time.

    1. Alex, you’re right about one thing: good content is the most important thing.

      However, if you produce good content but spend no time promoting it, nobody is going to read it.

  2. Too many – usually because of technical errors – like my browser freezing or crashing or broadband suddenly going dead. Or that dreadful spinning “buffering” icon when I’m uploading a post or a picture!

    1. I used to have a very crappy internet connection a few months ago, so I completely understand this issue. When that’s the case, it becomes critical to organize your works by separating tasks that can be performed offline and those which needs an internet connection.
