Blog Comments Links: How To Disable Them

Steven 3 responses WordPress

There are not many things that I could criticize about WordPress. However, one of the things that I would say to be a big mistake is the fact that WordPress automatically turns the urls in the comments into clickable links.

This isn’t used a lot by regular blog visitors but as it is widely used by spammers, you might want to disable this feature.

To disable automatic links in your blog’s comments, paste the following code in the functions.php of your WordPress theme:

remove_filter('comment_text', 'make_clickable', 9);

That’s all folks!

    I’m not disagreeing with your solution, but I think for the average user, who generally doesn’t want to get their hands dirty with ANY sort of coding, a WP plugin is maybe a better option.

    There are plugins like ‘No Comment Links’ (and a few others like it) available free in the WordPress plugin directory.

    1. Chris, you’re right. Some people don’t want to get involved with the technical side of blogging. However, I’m not a big fan of adding plugins for things that can be so easily implemented manually.

    Does not work at least for me.
    The code is only effective if the link without the www, but when using the www or http:// then it will turn into a hyperlink.

    Do you have any other way? because I really need it and I do not want to use an additional plugin

    Thank you
