Best Content Showcase: 3 Methods To Impress New Visitors
Every blog post can’t be your best blog post, some are just naturally going to shine brighter than others. The one drawback with a blog is that new content goes to the top and, eventually, older content falls into your archives where it might never be seen again, including your best content. That’s fine for you repeat visitors because they’ve already read your “best content” when you posted it. But you want new visitors to see it, too. Especially because it’s your best. That’s what makes them want to come back for more!

Highlight Your Best Content In Your Sidebar
If you’re using WordPress you can use the Popular Posts widget but that’s not quite enough, it bases popularity on the number of comments each post receives. When you first started your blog you probably wrote some really killer posts but that was a long time ago. You have more traffic now which means your newer content probably also has a lot more comments. The Popular Posts widget is great for showcasing current content, and it’s a good idea to use it, but you also need to do something to highlight that older content.
Put a text widget in your sidebar and create links using the titles of those old, popular posts. Draw attention to this section with an image, too. You want to make sure your new visitors see the very best content you have.
By the way, if those popular posts you’re highlighting aren’t pillar posts, make them pillar posts. You already know they’re some of your best work which makes them link bait. Use them to greater advantage by creating anchor text links to less-popular relevant posts.
Set Up A Page For Your Best Content
If you have a lot of content on your blog you might not be able to highlight everything you want in the sidebar without destroying the appearance. In that case, set up a full page. Use sub-headings to distinguish categories and set it up like a book index. As a bonus, you can always just keep adding to the page, whereas when you use your sidebar you’re going to have to keep adding and deleting so you don’t take up a lot of space.
Publish A Weekly Or Monthly Round-Up
Depending on how often you post you can set this up weekly or monthly. Choose one topic and pull all of your best content for that post. For example, if you have a gardening blog, one month you could pull all of your best content related to soil preparation. You’ll actually be doing yourself a favor with a Round-Up post because when done properly this becomes a new pillar post or link bait for your blog.
You only get one chance to make a good first impression and while most bloggers always strive to put their best foot forward, some content is just naturally going to be more popular than others. Monitor your analytics and be on the lookout for posts or keywords that seem to be attracting more attention than others and get that content out there where your new visitors can’t miss it.
