Benefits of becoming an Authority in your Niche

There are many posts around explaining you how you can try to become an Authority. In this post, I’ll be focusing on the reasons and benefits of becoming The Big Guy in your specific market. To be honest this mostly relies to the profit you can get from this status, and believe me, it’s HUGE.

authority

First of all, I’d like to make a disclaimer about this post because in my opinion, what I am going to say only applies for news-driven websites, blogs, content websites in general, but it doesn’t fit e-commerce. I might make another post in a few days explaining my point about e-commerce sites.

Now, let’s get back to the point: becoming an authority. When developing a blog project, like Dukeo, consistency is one of the keys to success. You want to post fresh content regularly so that your readers come back as often as possible. You may have noticed that since Dukeo opening I have been making new posts every single day.

There are two goals when doing this: first one is to gain regular visitors (becoming a reference for visitors), the second one is to increase the quantity of content that gets indexed by search engines (becoming a reference for search engines). And the latter will bring you even more readers that can potentially subscribe to your RSS Feed (here is a link if you haven’t subscribed already).

If you bring regular content to you visitors, they might use your posts as references on their own blog or on social media. That’s one of the big pros for becoming an authority, people will actually help you grow your website even more. You will gain traditional backlinks as a reward. If you manage to get the ball rolling and people see that you are putting time and dedication in your website, they’ll support you. Bring them value, they will bring you traffic.

Another benefit is that, when you are seen as a reference, people will come to you to have their voice heard. It could either be guest bloggers wanting to get some atention to their own websites, or products owners preparing their launch and presenting their product to you before the rest of the crowd. You could be ahead of most of the big news / changes / product launches and without much effort because will actually ask you to help them.

You might have noticed that I didn’t used the word Guru in this post. For me, the word Guru induces a lot of negative aspects. Some of the big guys (I won’t drop names because I’m not at war with anyone) are just jumping on every product they can (shitty or not) just to drop their affiliate link and make a few hundreds / thousands bucks out of it. Beware that people are running their own agenda. I’m not perfect (at all) but I’m trying my best to keep my integrity level above average: this allows me to sleep quietly.

To conclude this post, I would say that you should aim to grow your project as big as possible because authority = exposure = traffic = money.

I can definitely see the benefits of becoming an authority but man.. It takes a lot of work!

    • Sorry to be the one bringing this to the table, but nothing comes for free in this world. If you want to be successful, be prepared to work hard.
