Becoming Affiliate: Is It A License To Print Money?
One of the biggest myths spouted by people out there in the internet marketing business is that becoming an affiliate is a license to print money.
Of course there are vast sums of cash involved and if you get things right you can make a fortune.
That said, for every person who does succeed as a mega affiliate, there are thousands who fail.
The message therefore is very simple: There’s a lot of money to be made in the affiliate industry, but it’s not a “get rich quick” scheme, and you’re not going to be a millionaire in the near future.

If you’d hoped for fast cash then now is the time to turn your back on your affiliate ambitions.
If on the other hand you’re happy to put in a lot of hard work on the off chance that your affiliate ambitions might be realized, read on!
An affiliate is basically someone who resells a product or service on behalf of another company. When they make a sale they receive a small commission – usually a percentage of the sale price.
What does it take to become an affiliate
Before you can become an affiliate marketer with even a slight hope of making money, you’ll need a variety of different things. Here’s a short list of the essentials:
- Motivation, grit and determination: You’ll need all three of these things in abundance, often it can take months before an affiliate marketer turns over any money. It could be years before they turn over enough to consider leaving a full time job.
- An idea: You need to promote something – whether it’s a self help course on Clickbank, or a range of children’s toys from Amazon. There are lots of different programs out there for affiliates to use, and lots of different niches to exploit. Decide upon an idea and stick to it.
- A domain and hosting account: Once you know what you’re going to promote you need to build a website. For this you’ll need a domain name and a hosting account – as well as a nice website with plenty of unique content on it. You’ll probably need a few pictures too.
- Traffic: So once you’ve got a website up you need to get some traffic to it. Traditionally affiliate marketers have relied heavily on search engine referrals. SEO is becoming a lot harder though, so you may also want to look into social media marketing, email marketing and paid clicks.
Once you have all of the above you should then start to see some kind of return if everything has been done properly. Getting all of the above things in place can take weeks or even months.
Affiliate marketing when done properly is more of a long term way of making money – once your websites become established and are recognized in their respective fields, a snowball effect should take place where they receive more and more traffic – which should lead to more and more sales.
Becoming an affiliate is not a license to print money, but for those who know what they’re doing it’s a great way to make a living.
