Action Plan: This Is Your Roadmap To Build A Successful Blog

Steven2 responsesBlogging

The Internet is littered with abandoned blogs that failed because their owners neglected to construct a strong foundation. They either didn’t didn’t realize they had to, or they were arrogant enough to believe they were above all that grunt work. But if you remember the story of the three little pigs then you’ll realize how important it is to build your blog on a strong foundation.

It’s Time To Start Planning Your Strategy

Break It Down With A Timeline: Your action plan will contain specific tasks with an eye toward your ultimate goal. Break those tasks down into manageable bites that you can realistically achieve. It also helps to set time limits. For example:

Subscribe to my exclusive newsletter, and learn how to grow your blog like the pros»
  • Publish five posts a day, every day, for the next three months.
  • Add five outbound links every week for the next six months.
  • Develop one new blogging contact every month
  • Spend three months analyzing your traffic so you can decide how to monetize your blog

Some of your tasks may be one-time-only affairs:

  • Apply for an AdSense account
  • Set up a Facebook page
  • Set up a Clickbank account
  • Learn basic HTML and CSS
  • Create a series post about…

Each of your tasks is actually another mini-goal, which means each should be realistically achievable and measurable. In other words, instead of a vague goal like “I want to make a million dollars blogging this year.” you need to be more specific – “This month I will make $1,000 and these are the mini-goals I will accomplish to achieve it.

Plan To Be Flexible

As you learn more and more about blogging you may be tempted to adjust your strategy and that’s OK. You can only plan to control your own actions, and the best you can do is anticipate what your competitor will do.

Additionally, the blogging terrain continues to change. New software is introduced, new competitors enter the market, the search engines change their algorithms – all sorts of things happen that are beyond your control which will require you to alter your strategy.

However, when you make those adjustments it’s important to remember your mission, your values, and your goals and vision for the future. The success of your blogging strategy is based on the strength of your foundation.

Steven – I just went through all of your strategic blogging posts. Great stuff; some of it I’ve never seen before.

In this post are you recommending people post five times a day or is that just an example of a strategy someone might take on?

    1. Patricia, it is just an example.

Pick a posting frequency that you know you can keep up with. There is no point in setting a frequency that you will give up after a few days/week.
